Question:

WRITING TASK 1

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The table below shows how many people visited the Memphis Museum during the year before and the year after its refurbishment. The charts illustrate survey results on how visitors experienced their visit to the museum during those two periods.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

Sample Answer

The table compares the number of people who visited the Ashdown Museum in the year before and after its refurbishment, while the pie charts present the results of visitor satisfaction levels conducted during the same periods.

Overall, the refurbishment had a positive impact. The total number of visitors increased considerably, and the proportions of satisfied visitors rose, whereas dissatisfaction declined.

Before the refurbishment, the museum welcomed 74,000 visitors, compared with 92,000 in the following year, representing an increase of 18,000 people. Similarly, the percentage of very satisfied visitors climbed significantly from 15% to 35%, while the proportion of those who were satisfied also increased from 30% to 40%, making satisfied visitors the largest group after the renovation.

In contrast, negative responses fell noticeably after the refurbishment. The percentage of dissatisfied visitors dropped sharply from 40% before the renovation to 15% afterward, representing the biggest decline among all categories. Likewise, the proportion of very dissatisfied respondents decreased from 10% to 5%. Meanwhile, the percentage of people giving no response remained unchanged at 5% in both years. (Total Words: 175)
